Partner Alex Carruthers, and senior associates Liam Bennett and Stacey De Souza have contributed to the Chambers & Partners Child Relocation 2025 Global Practice Guide, providing the global overview for the topic. Alex was also the contributing editor for this year’s guide.

Alex, Liam and Stacey examine the growing complexity of child relocation cases worldwide, driven by globalisation and cross-cultural relationships. They explain that relocation – whether domestic or international – can have profound implications for children and is among the most difficult decisions for family courts. Laws and procedures vary between jurisdictions: in some, such as England and Wales, court permission or the other parent’s consent is required, while others, like parts of the USA, presume a custodial parent’s right to move.
