The Family Court has handed down a significant case management judgment in Potanina v Potanin, confirming that our client Ms Potanina’s Part III claim will proceed in England and Wales without further delay.

The decision marks the latest stage in long-running litigation between Natalia Potanina and Vladimir Potanin, one of the world’s wealthiest individuals. Ms Potanina seeks financial relief in England following the parties’ Russian divorce, with her claim valued in the billions.

A central issue before the court was Mr Potanin’s application to adjourn the English proceedings pending the outcome of proceedings he has commenced in Moscow. In those proceedings, he is seeking to restrain Ms Potanina from pursuing her claim in England on the basis that Russian courts should have exclusive jurisdiction. Mr Justice MacDonald refused that application.

The matter has now been listed for a 15-day final hearing in November 2026.

The team at Hughes Fowler Carruthers acting for Ms Potanina comprises Senior Counsel Frances Hughes, Partner Bryan Jones and Associate Sean O’Beirne.
