Frances Hughes comments on the division of non-traditional assets during HNW divorce proceedings

The recent investment growth for so called ‘passion assets’, such as handbags, watches and jewellery, has raised the question as to how these non-traditional assets should be divided during HNW divorce proceedings.

Commenting on the difficulty husbands are facing during divorce proceedings, partner Frances Hughes noted that the appreciation in these assets when gifted to their partners is posing a significant challenge.

“The only way that husbands can avoid spending large sums of money on jewellery and finding that it can’t be clawed back and not much taken into account is by refraining from making gifts of jewellery and that might in itself cause an earlier demise of the marriage.”
