Mark Harper comments on the implementation of cohabitation reforms by the new Labour government

Home > NEWS > 10 Jul 2024

Following the announcement last year that a Labour government would introduce cohabitation reforms, their subsequent victory in the general election has highlighted the need for further clarity on the party’s policy on the subject.

Commenting on Labour’s plans, partner Mark Harper noted that it could take years for the party to flesh out its policy, and recommended that action be taken as soon as possible.

‘A lot of people are rightly rude about Theresa May, but she did have the courage to say, “We are going to introduce no-fault divorce. I’m not going to have a Law Commission report on this, we’re just going to draft the legislation.” We need a new Labour government to have the confidence to just do it.’
