Mark Harper in The Times re the wife who gave up her career and won the family fortune in divorce

Mark Harper comments in The Times on the divorce case of Jane Morris, who has been awarded 90% of the family fortune as she gave up her career for marriage, but criticised for not earning more money after her split.

Mark Harper, family partner at Hughes Fowler Carruthers, said that the trend was to expect wives to be as financially independent as soon as possible. Financial outcomes on divorce were “fact-specific”, he added, “especially if a judge makes findings that one spouse has been reckless”.
