Archie Best works in all areas of family law, and in particular on complicated financial cases, divorce, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, co-habitation agreements, matters relating to children, and international law. He often acts for clients with public profiles, occasionally in the context of press interest, and does so with discretion and sensitivity.

The Chambers UK 2023 Guide records that “He is absolutely terrific; he is very client-friendly and conscientious.” He is commended as being “A rising star without a shadow of a doubt,” and “bright, pragmatic and hard-working. He is a brilliant lawyer who gets things done with a very measured and dignified approach.” He is further praised for being “utterly affable and absolutely excellent to deal with.”
In the Chambers HNW 2022 Guide, Archie is commended as being “incredibly hard working” and a source notes that “when there’s a case with immense detail, he’s who you want on your side”. He is praised as “very clever, extremely numerate, and has very good judgement” and “a star of the future.”
Before joining the partnership, Archie worked mainly with Mark Harper who describes him as “a class act”, “critical in winning cases” and “brilliant at preparing for trial”. He was a key contributor to the Third Edition of International Trust and Divorce Litigation, co-authored by partner Mark Harper, which has been described as “the must have leading authority providing an indispensable steer for lawyers, trust practitioners, bankers and others through the legal jungle that is international trusts in a divorce law context”.
Archie also co-wrote with Partner Mark Harper a chapter on family law in the recently published Global Mobility of Ultra-High-Net-Worth Individuals, which has been described as an invaluable tool for lawyers, tax advisers, bankers and all professionals who assist UHNWIs.
Archie regularly advises at the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, delivering free legal advice to people who cannot afford a solicitor.
Archie joined Hughes Fowler Carruthers in 2011 and was appointed to the partnership in April 2022. Prior to joining Hughes Fowler Carruthers Archie trained at Payne Hicks Beach where he gained experience in the private client, conveyancing and commercial departments, as well as the matrimonial department.
Archie is a member of Resolution and his interests include his young family, cinema, rock climbing and boxing.
